The money raised from your sponsors will be split between two great charities. The first is the Mongol Rally's primary charity − Mecy Corps Mongolia. The second is called Hopes and Home For Children. Our minimum fundraising target is £1250, but we hope to raise a lot more. The Mongol Rally in its entirety intends to raise over £300,000!
Mercy Corps Mongolia
Mercy Corps/Mongolia has one overall strategic goal − to support rural communities to mobilize resources to meet their economic and social needs , and by extension, to provide a better quality of life for rural residents. The objectives are:
To develop, diversify and strengthen rural businesses critical to Mongolia's agriculture sector, helping individuals, families and communities to become more self-sufficient , diversified in their production, and better linked to both value-added processors and local, regional and national markets.
To enhance the ability of rural communities to make informed economic and social decisions and to act on those decisions; and to empower them to participate in public sector decision-making from the local to the national level.
Currently Mercy Corps implements the following projects in Mongolia: Gobi Regional Economic Growth Initiatives (Gobi Initiative), Rural Agribusines Support Program (RASP) and Training, Advocacy and Networking Program (TAN).
Hope and Homes for Children
Hope and Homes for Children (HHC) gives hope to the poorest children in the world − those who are orphaned, abandoned or vulnerable − by enabling them to grow up within the love of a family and the security of a home, so that they can fulfil their potential.
Imagine growing up not knowing what a family is, not having the sense of belonging or emotional support that being part of one provides. For over a million children living in institutions in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), this is all too much a reality while in Africa, HIV/AIDS is orphaning millions of children, robbing them of their childhood. In CEE our work is focussed on closing institutions and moving children into family-based care and in Africa we provide a vital lifeline for families at risk of breakdown due to the pressures of poverty, disease and conflict. Your support will help us to transform these children's lives.
